His wife died in April-June 1842 in Portsea.

In the 1861 census as John Croucher aged 74, born in Botley, Hampshire, a tailor and living with his wife (Ann), son (Henry B), and two daughters (Marie and Sarah Ann) at 12 Church Path, Landport, Portsea, Hampshire.
In the 1871 census as John Croucher aged 86, born in Botley, Hampshire, a journeyman tailor, and living with his wife (Ann), grandson (Louis John Besant) and granddaughter (Jenny Besant) at 3 Abercombie Street, Kingston, Portsea, Hampshire. The grandchildren were probably the children of Henry Latltern (Lattern) Bessent and Marina Ann Barnes who married in April-June 1861.

From the 1841 census Rachel was born in about 1789 in Hampshire. Her death is in FreeBMD in April-June 1842 in Portsea Island (7 99).
There are two possible christenings in the IGI for Ann Barnes - 20 December 1809 parents William and Mary Barnes and 19 August 1810, parents Charles and Ann Barns, both at Saint Marys, Portsea, Hampshire. She was married to ? Moore by whom she had at least two children Marina Ann and George. Marina Ann married Henry Laltern (Lattern) Bessent, and had a son Louis John and daughter Jenny. I belive George married Ada and had a daughter Anne M. In the 1891 census Ann Croucher aged 80 was living with Marina Bessent (Croucher in the index) aged 60, Ada Besseant aged 25 and Anne M Bessant aged 1 in Portsea. There is also a Isabella Croucher in the index but an incorrect surname. There is an entry in FreeBMD for the death of Ann Croucher in January-March 1901 aged 90 in Portsmouth (2b 349).
