"Page 3 Baptisms solemnized in the Parish of Lowestoft in the County of Suffolk in the Year 1833 [...] 18 [blank] Jan 7 born March 8 1829 James [parents] William [a] Chimney Sweep & Charlotte Taylor [of] Lowestoft". His brother Alfred was baptised at the same time in the previous entry.

In the 1851 census as James Taylor aged 23, born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, single, a sailor, and lodging with Sarah Hansford (aged 51, born in London, Middlesex, widowed and a green grocer), another lodger (Edwd Elman aged 23, born in Norwich, Norfolk, a single and a joiner), and a servant (Sharlotte Cowles aged 17, born in Ketsingtard, Suffolk and single) in High Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk.

His wife was buried on 24 May 1862 in St Margaret, Lowestoft.
