In the 1861 census as Joseph Stubbs aged 10, born in Glapwell, Derbyshire, and living with his widowed mother (Sarah), sister (Mary) and grandfather (John Fox) in Glapwell, Bolsover, Derbyshire.
His mother died in Nottingham in 1867.

I cannot find any later information
Glapwell is some 5 miles SE of Chesterfield on A617, and Scarcliffe is 3 miles N of Glapwell.
