Christening of Edmund Horatio Stubbs in Andrew & Nancy Peel's Family Tree on 20 July 1807 in Snelston, Derbyshire, parents Joseph Stubbs and Harriet Reddish. However Chris Hogger in an email gives the christening on July 20th 1807 at St. Mary, Nottingham with the same parents and this ties in with the christenings of his siblings, and the census entries.
Marriage of Edmund Horatio Shibbs (sic) and Mary Anne Empson in the IGI on 17 March 1834 in Southwell, Nottingham. There is a submitted entry in the IGI for the marriage of Edmund Horatio Stubbs on 17 March 1834 at Sarthwell (sic), Nottingham, but no wife given. There is also an entry for the marriage of Edmund Horatio Stubbs (indexed under Horatio, not Edmund) and Mary Ann Emyson corrected to Empson on 17 March 1832 (sic) at Radford, Notts with parents consent in Pallot's Marriage Index for England: 1780 to 1837 on Ancestry. There is an entry in the Nottinghamshire Registry of Marriages 1559-1837 Volume 7 Southwell for Edmund Horatio Stubbs and Mary Ann Empson on 17 March 1834, parishioners of Radford, Nottinghamshire with permission of their parents (if they were born in or before 1811 why was their parents permission required?)
All the children were born in Nottinghamshire with the exception of James who was born in Runcorn, Cheshire and Reuben Alfred in Wirksworth, Derbyshire.
In the 1841 census as Edmund Stubbs aged 30 (rounded down toa multiple of 5), born in Nottinghamshire, employed as a lace maker journeyman, and living with Mary (wife?), Walter (son?) and Caroline (daughter?) at Willoughby Street, Lenton Nottinghamshire.
In the 1851 census as Edmund Stubbs aged 40 (49 in the index), born in Nottinghamshire, employed as a national school master, and living with his wife (Mary Ann), three sons (James, Walter and William), and two daughters (Caroline and Sarah Ann) at Sherwood Street, Radford, Nottinghamshire.
In the 1861 census as Edmund Stubbs aged 50, born in Nottingham, employed as the governor of the Bolton Industrial Ragged School, and living with his wife (Mary A), two sons (Alfred and James) and two daughters (Caroline and Sarah Ann) at the school at 94 Commision Street, Bolton, Lancashire. The school had 17 boys aged 7-13 and 10 girls aged 8-13, but only their initials are in the census. According to Mary Wall's site the school was founded in 1854, and certified in 1863 for 180 boys. It moved to Lostock Junction and was certified for 200 boys on 13 June 1870. The school lost its certification on 15 June 1924. From Peter Higginbotham's Site Ragged Schools developed from the work of John Pounds, a Portsmouth shoemaker who in 1818 provided a free school for the poorest children. Thomas Guthrie helped to promote Pounds' idea of free schooling for working-class children and started another "ragged" school in Edinburgh. A further school in Aberdeen was set up by Sheriff Watson. In 1844, Lord Shaftesbury formed the Ragged School Union which eventually established over 200 free schools. Edmund's son William worked briefly at the Salford Ragged School.
There is an entry in FreeBMD for the death of Edmund Horatio Stubbs in January-March 1871 aged 63 in Bradford (9b 108).
On a copy made on 6 April 2005 of Entry of Marriage Number 4 in 1872 in Bradford District of William Henry Stubbs to Jane Pullen at Bradford Registry Office his father was Edmund Horatio Stubbs deceased, employed as a schoolmaster.
On a copy made on 5 July 2005 of the Entry of Death Number 168 in 1872 in Bowling, Bradford, Yorkshire of Mary Ann Stubbs on 21 June 1872 it states she was the widow of Edmund Stubbs, a day school teacher.
There are two entries for Edmund Horatio Stubbs in Ancestry Public Member Trees. Justine Jones has an entry for Edmund Horatio Stubbs born in 1807 in Nottingham, parents Joseph Stubbs and Harriet Reddish, his wife Mary Ann Empson, his occupation as a national schoolteacher and the seven children. Andrew Peel has similar information giving his christening on 20 July 1807 in Snelston, Derbyshire, his marriage on 17 March 1834 in Sarthwell, Nottingham, his seven children and his death in 1871.
Radford is 1 mile NW of the centre of Nottingham, and Lenton is the same SW.
Edmund Horatio Stubbs was Felicity's second great grandfather.
