In the 1881 census as James E Punter aged 5, born in Dockenfield, Hampshire, and boarding with his widowed mother (Jane) and sister (Mary J) with James Aldred (who I guess was his father and his mother's future husband), and his nephew (William Boonner aged 30 and born in Frensham) at Batts Corner, Dockenfield, Hampshire.
His parents married in 1883.
His father died in 1889 in Farnham.
In the 1891 census as James Aldred aged 15, born in Batts Corner, Hampshire, living on his own means with his widowed mother (Jane), sister (Jane) and a lodger (William Bonner aged 33, single and born in Farnham, Surrey - his cousin) in Dockenfield, Hampshire.
