In the 1861 census as William Payne aged 7, born in Brighton, and living with his parents (Friend and Elizabeth), two brothers (Friend and John) and sister (Mary) at 43 Cannon Street, Palace, Brighton.

In the 1871 census as William Paine aged 17, born in Brighton, employed as a boatman and living with his parents (Friend and Elizabeth), and brother (John) at 2 Suters Gardens, Palace, Brighton.

In the 1881 census as William Payne, aged 27, born in Brighton, unmarried, employed as a boatman and living with his father (Friend) and brother (John) at 8 Russell Place, Palace, Brighton. His mother may have been a pauper living at the Race Hill Workhouse - her status is married but not with her husband.

I cannot find any later information.

T Payne and Christony Slater have entries in Ancestry Public Member Trees for William Payne born 1854 in Brighton, Sussex, parents Friend Payne and Elizabeth Denyer. Adamd Watts adds the 1861 and 1871 census entries, and Rebecca Brading the 1861-1881 census entries, but gives his mother as Elizabeth Payne.

William Paine was my eighth cousin three times removed.
