In the 1871 census as Alfred A Madgwick aged 13, born in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, a lace drawer, and living with his parents (Joseph and Emma), two brothers (Frank and Harry) and three sisters (Anne, Caroline and Helen) at 28 Corporation Road, Nottingham St Mary, Nottinghamshire.
I cannot find him in the 1881 census but he was not living with his parents.
In the 1891 census as Alfred Madgwick aged 22 (sic - in the index, 33 on the original), born in Nottinghamshire, single and a dyer, and living with his bother-in-law and sister (Frank and Ellen Brown), and their son (Harold) and daughter (Annie) in three rooms at 8 Cottage Avenue, Snenton, Nottinghamshire.
