Pearl Jenkins, who works at the Jos. G Reed dry goods company and who grew from kilts to long trousers in the peaceful vacinity of Scioloville, had a hard experience with the cruel, cruel world during a recent trip to Cinninnati. Pearl arrived in the Queen city safely, dispite the fears of solicitous fellow employees and was busily engaged in doing the sights when he was accosted kindly by a well dressed stranger. Of course the stranger's salutation was "How are you, John!" and of course the confiding youth from Sciotoville blurted out that his name wasn't "John" but Pearl. After that they became great friends, for the smooth tonguened stranger said he had known Pearl when he was a little boy and swelled his civic pride wonderfully by appearing to know all about the metropolis of Sciotoville. As Pearl and the stranger strolled arm in arm down Sixth Street he of the suave smile and convincing demeanor, offered to change a $20 bill for the youth in a nearby cafe. Pearl didn't tumble until the stranger had left him standing on the street curb for fully half an hour. A search failed to locate the youth's gentlemanly aquaintance or his $20 William either.

The Employees of the company presented the couple with a chest of silver, and many other beautiful gifts were received.
