There is some uncertainty regarding her maiden name - it could be Hoad (also spelt Hoade, Oade and Oads) who lived in Frensham from 1671 to 1731 and in Headley from 1617 to 1673, and Head also spelt (Eade and Eads) who lived in Frensham from 1653 to 1812, and in Headley and Bramshott from 1545 to 1877. In particular a Mary Eads or Oads was baptised on 17 November 1708 at Frensham which matches her age at marriage.

There are two entries in West Surrey Family History Society Surrey Marriage Index for Robert West on 19 February 1731, one in Marriage Licences to Mary Head of Frensham, and one to Mary Hoad in Frensham.
Entry in Ancestry London and Surrey, England, Marriage Bonds and Allegations, 1597-1921 for Mary Head aged 22 and Robert West on 19 February in Frensham. He and Mary Mills made their marks. The detail is illegible except for what is known from elsewhere, only the ages being used - in particular her surname is illegible but her age is a clear "twenty two".

Her first son was baptised in Frensham on 2 April 1732 with only the father's name, second son in Haslemere on 25 July 1733, and daughter in Haslemere on 27 November 1736.
