Entry in Justin Hewess Photography
I’ve had a camera in my hand in one form or another since I was about six. My first was an old hand-me-down Polaroid, but I moved on to bigger and better things soon after with a then ubiquitous 110 film camera, a disc (remember them?!) camera, and then a very trusty APS. The latter of which I loved as I was well into my panoramics at the time. During all of this however there was my Dad and his Praktica SLR, and while it was never actually mine he did let me play with it. I eventually ‘inherited’ it after much persuasion…personally I think he threw it at me to try and shut me up. I loved that camera. Totally manual, film (no digital back then), great lenses, and – unlike today’s snap happy digital society – it really forced me to consider my composition, lighting and camera settings and, while I didn’t realise it at the time, I unknowingly learned these useful skills, which I still use to this day. After years of faithful service the Praktica eventually died on me. So, with my digital adverse sentiment still intact, I bought a brand new Canon EOS 30, another great film camera. I eventually relented to the digital bug and got an EOS 40D, with the EOS 30 resigned to backup status. It did take quite a bit of convincing for me to eventually go down the digital route, but after weighing up the cost savings and versatility, it was a no brainer. Nowadays things have moved on, as has my equipment. Consequently, all of my shooting is now done digitally with a variety of lenses.
There is an entry on YouTube which includes some of his paintings.
