His father is unknown, but Ernest appears to have used the surname Bushell after this.
In the 1891 census as Ernest A Birchett (sic - in the index, Bushell on the original) aged 1, born in Croydon, Surrey with his grandparents (Thomas and Mary A Fullick), two uncles (James and Stinson), two aunts (Jane and Lucy), and (half?)-brother (James P Birchett) at 21 Wisbeach Road, Croydon, Surrey. I cannot find his mother Ellen who was married to Charles Bushell, and I assume they seperated between 1887 and 1889.
In the 1901 census as Ernest Fullick aged 10, born in Croydon, Surrey, and living with his mother (Ellen Bushell), brother (Percy Bushell) who were boarding with Thomas and Mary Fullick (his grandparents?) and another boarder (William French aged 32, born in Croydon, widowed, and a general labourer) at 6 Keely Road, Croydon, Surrey. This address was shared with another family.
In the 1911 census as Ernest Bushell aged 22, born in Croydon, Surrey, single and a private in the 21 Bn, The Queen's, in Arabia, Cyprus, and Gibraltar.

There are also three entries for Ernest Bushell born 56 Gloucester Road, Croydon, Surrey on 13 June 1889, his marriage to Emily Jane Garner in Croydon in 1917, four children and his death in Kings Lynn in 1976 - however the husband of Emily was born 21 July 1899 and had parents Leonard and Kathleen Bushell.
