The following information came from Shirley Croucher:
Alfred Croucher was born at number 75 Cambridge Grove Road, Norbiton on the 30th October, 1912. The family lived there until his father Edward Croucher purchased a house number 7 Cowleaze Road, Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey. Edward and Elizabeth lived there until their deaths. When Alfred was young he loved motor bikes! This is what attracted Irene to him. Alfred and Irene used to go on cross county rallies every weekend. Alfred lived in Kingston and Irene lived in Teddington. Instead of Irene getting the public transport every morning Alfred used to pick her up on the motor bike. Irene use to ride side saddle as she wore skirts it was the only way to go! Irene became over confident about riding like this until one very frosty morning when Alfred took off a little fast and hit some ice on the road and consequently Irene was left sitting in the middle of the road. This did not deter Irene. From then on she wore trousers and rode the regular way. They continued to ride the bike right up until Irene was seven months pregnant and she could no longer hold on to Alfred. With regrets they sold the bike and bought a car. Alfred Edward Croucher and Irene Maud Hill, born 6th December 1915, were married on the 23rd of December 1934 at Saint Mary’s Church, Teddington, Middlesex. When Alfred and Irene were first married in 1934 they lived with Alfred’s parents Edward and Elizabeth Croucher at number 7 Cowleaze Road Kingston-on-Thames. Shirley Irene arrived on the 13th of November 1935 and Valerie Ann was born on the 30th August 1939. Alfred Edward Croucher fought in WW2 with the Royal Engineers 1939-1945 in Normandy and on the Western Front. In 1936 we moved into number 26 Cowleaze Road Kingston-on-Thames. We lived there until the day we left England for Australia. Peter Edward was born on the 22nd of July 1944. We migrated from England to NSW in Australia in 1954. Alfred Croucher passed away on the 22 June 1995 (age 82). Irene Croucher passed away on the 26 of November 2005 (age 89). Their ashes rest in the Wall of remembrance at the Ingleburn RSL Ingleburn NSW, Australia.
