The following appears in Ancestry Messages from Marilyn Gonneau to Tom Croucher (4 July 2002): Hi Tom: I read yours and Elaina's e-mails looking for info on Alfred Croucher. I have been doing research on the Gonneau family for many years, and the Gonneau and Croucher families joined twice through your great-grandfather Samuel's line. If I can give you any help with that line, let me know. The only reference I have to Samuel's brother Alfred, comes from a copy of George William Croucher's autobiography, "my only Uncle Alfred (father's only brother) was apprenticed to a blacksmith, he after travelling in parts of England getting into Portsmouth Dockyard. The last I heard of him as being the Chief of the Heavy Armour Plate Shop there. He was on board the H.M.S.Thunderer at the time of the explosion of her boilers, but happened to be just coming on deck, he escaped injury. His wife, Aunt Esther, was a nice person as I remember her. They had three daughters, who I think were all teachers at Portsmouth and other parts of England."
