I cannot find his birth or christening but from the census entries it was either Panxworth or Spixworth in about 1813.
In the 1841 census as William Cowle (sic - in the index, Cowles on the original) aged 28, born in Norfolk, an agricultural labourer, and living with James and Susanna (parents?) at Shottesham All Saints, Norfolk.
In the 1851 census as William Cowell (sic - on the original as well as in the index), aged 38, born in Pandwell (sic - in the index, Panxworth on the original), single, and a mustard mill labourer, and living with his parents (James and Susan Cowell) at Street, Shotesham All Saints, Norfolk.
In the 1861 census as William Cowles aged 48, born in Spixworth, Norfolk, single, a mustard labourer, and boarding with James Worman (aged 53, born in Fransham, Norfolk, and a starch labourer), his wife (Eliza aged 50, born in Alborough, Norfolk and a washerwoman), and two sons (Benjamin aged 7 and Peter aged 10, both born in Stoke Holy Cross, Norfolk) at 1 Baron's Cottages, Stoke Holy Cross, Norfolk. (Colemans made mustard and starch).
