I cannot locate an entry for her birth - some believe it was in Lowestoft, but I cannot locate and entry. She was apparently brought to Lowestoft soon after her birth.

Entry in Ancestry Canadian Immigrant Records, Part One for Lucy Cowles, an infant arrived at port of Hailfax in 1884 on Circassian from Liverpool for Montreal, accompanied by Henry and Ellen Cowles (parents?) and Alfred Cowles (brother?).

In the 1891 census as Lucy Cowles aged 8, born in USA, and living with her parents (Henry and Helen both born in England) and brother (Alfred) at Caledonia, Prescott, Ontario.

In the 1901 census as Laury E (sic) Cowles aged 17, born on 7 Aug 1883 in Ontario, and living with her parents (Henrey and Ellen) in Caledonia Springs, Caledonia, Prescott, Ontario.

Mrs. Lucy E. Stanley died today in hospital afer a lengthy illness. She was 66. Born in Lowestaft, England, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cowles. She came to Canada as a child and the family settled at Caledonia Springs. She was married in Ottawa in 1915 to George Harcourt Stanley, who died in 1943. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. David Harkness, Ottawa; one son, Sgt. Harold Stanley, RCAF, and three grandchildren. The funeral will be held from Hulse and Playfair's on Monday to St. John's Anglican Church for service at 2 o'clock. Rev. Terence Finlay will officiate. Interment will be in Beechwood cemetery.

Lucy Esther Cowles was my third cousin.
