Mrs. Catherine Smith, widow of the late Noah Smith, dropped dead while about the house at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. D. Quick, living about two miles northwest of De Witt, on Sunday morning, aged about 70 years. The cause of death is supposed to be heart disease, with which she had been afflicted for some time. She came to this county with her husband and family in the year 1855, from Rockingham county, Va. The family at first settled in the south part of Orange township, at what is known as the "Virginia settlement," where they lived until a few years since. She leaves several children and grandchildren to mourn their loss - Wm. E. Smith, of Fourth Street, Clinton, being a son. The remains will be interred at the family cemetery in Orange township, the time not yet determined.
