In the 1871 census as Frederick J Cale (sic - on the original) aged 17, born in Frensham, Surrey, no stated employment, and living with his parents (John and Emmer) and two bothers (Sammuel and John) at Dockenfield, Extra Parochial, Surrey.

There is an entry in Ancestry Public Member Trees for Frederick James Cole, born 1857 in Frensham, Surrey, parents James Cole and Fanny Thorogood, his marriage to Mary Jane Store, and three sons (excluding Edgar). I believe these to be the wrong parents - all the other children were born in London and does not fit the census entries.
I cannot find an entry for the marriage of his parents and so cannot identify his mother. She was born in Dockenfield in about 1824, and there are three possible baptisms in Frensham in 1823: Emma Chuter on 16 November, Emma Soane 26 Oct, and Amey Ellen Gregory 9 February, none of whom I can trace later. She died in Farnham (2a 73) in July-September 1884 aged 60.
Frederick George Cole was the first husband of Mary Jane Store, wife of Abraham Shrubb, husband of Maria Deadman, my first cousin three times removed.
