His father died in St Saviour in April-June 1898.

In the 1901 census as Frederick Clark aged 8 and born in Surrey and living with his adoptive parents Seymour Webster (aged 52, born in Warwickshire and a sanitary brass finisher) and his wife (Emma aged 51 and born in Warwickshire) in three rooms at 22 Hyford Avenue, Lambeth, London.

His mother died in Hambledon in 1903.

Entry in the service records for his brother Robert Edwin Clark who died in 1909 which gives his next of kin as brother Mr Fred Clark, 40 Coronation Close, Vauxhall SW.

In the 1911 census as Frederick Richard Clark aged 18, born in London, single, and a porter at A&N Stores, and boarding with Frederick Arthur Ayliffe aged 40, born in London, and a L S W R Carman), his wife (Annie Mary aged 43 and born in London), and two sons (Frederick Charles aged 15 and a messenger on the L S W R, and Arthur William aged 3, both born in London) in five rooms at 39 Radnor Terrace, South Lambeth S W. Also in the same census is Seymour Webster aged 62, born in Wick, Warwickshire and a sanitary brass finisher and his wife Emma aged 60 and born in Wick, Warwickshire living at 41 Coronation Buildings, South Lambeth Rd, Vauxhall, Lambeth with their neice Lucy Harriot Payne.
