I cannot find the family in the 1871 census.

His sister was registered in July-September 1871 in Portsea and baptised on 21 February 1872 at St Thomas, Portsmouth.

In the 1881 census as Henry Belton aged 12, born in Portsea, Hampshire, and living with his parents (John and Ann), brother (Joseph) and sister (Elizabeth) at 4 (sic - in the index, 44 on the original) Chandos St, Landport, Portsea.

His first daughter was born on 5 July 1891 and registered in in July-September 1891 in Portsea.

Entry in Ancestry England & Wales, Civil Divorce Records, 1858-1918 for Henry Belton, a skilled artisan of 17 Carlise Road Southsea, husband's petition spouse Susannah Charlotte Belton, co-respondent Robert Jerann (sic) filed 18 January 1897, degree nisi 7 April 1897, final 1 November 1897 on the grounds of adultary with Robt Jeram, adding the marriage was on 27 October 1889 at St James, Milton, and the children Ethel Kate and Edith May should remain in his custody. It includes a copy of the marriage certificate "Page 172 1889 Marriage solemnized at the Parish Church in the Parish of St. James Milton in the County of Southampton. [No.] 344 Octr 27 1889 Henry Belton [aged] 21 [a] Bachelor [and] Baker [of] 52 Bromton Rd [father] John Belton [a] Labourer, [and] Susannah Charlotte Wilkinson [aged ] 20 [a] Spinster [of] 52 Bromton Rd [father] Robert Wilkinson [a] Markman in Dockyard. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns [...] in the Presence of us Robert Wilkinson [and] Elizebeth Belton". She signed her name Susannah Charlott and a note states "Charlotte and Elizabeth spelt in this way by the parties who signed the register". They had lived in Fratton and at 60 Highfield Street Landport, and had two children Ethel Kate born 5 July 1891 and Edith May born 3 September 1894 (sic), that his wife committed adultery with Robert Jeram at 60 Highfield Street, Landport in August 1895, and since November 1895 had lived with Robt Jeram at 8 Landport View, Charlotte Street, Landport.

His daughter was registered in October-December 1902 and son in April-June 1906, both in Portsmouth and both dying soon after birth.

In the 1911 census as Henry Belton aged 42, born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, a ship fitter's assistant working in the dockyard, and living with his wife (Sarah), son (Henry Edwin), daughter (Edie May) and widowed mother-in-law (Sarah Ann Lock) in six rooms at 10 Milford Road, Fratton, Landport, Portsmouth, Hampshire.

In the 1921 census as Henry Belton born in Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1869 and living with Henry Edwin Belton (son?) in Portsmouth, Hampshire. His wife was living in Arundel, East Preston, Sussex with Edwin Thomas and Jessie Lock (her brother and sister-in-law?).

His wife died on 12 December 1922 at 10 Milford Road, Fratton, Portsmouth, and left effects of £:556 17s. 6d to the Henry Belton dockyard pensioner.

In the 1939 England and Wales Register as Henry Belton born 12 December 1869 (sic - on the original), divorced, a retired dockyard pensioner and living with five others at Beltona, New Road, Petersfield, Hampshire. His wife, status married, was living with her brother and sister-in-law (George and Ellen Oliver) at 34 Hambledon Road, Havant and Waterlooville.

Death of Henry Belton in FreeBMD in October-December 1947 aged 77 in Portsmouth (6B 474).

Entry in Ancestry England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1995 for Henry Belton died 2 December 1947 in Portsmouth probate 11 November 1955 in London. "Belton Henry of 51 Delhi-street Landport Portsmouth died 2 December 1947 at St Marys Hospital Portsmouth Probate London 11 November to William Henry Ernest Belton skilled labourer H.M. Dockyard. Effects £83 4s. 5d.". I cannot establish who William Henry Ernest Belton was except he lived at 76 Gladstone Street, Mile End Portsmouth, and died 31 December 1965 at Alexander Hopital, Cosham aged 65 and left effects of £3924 to Eliza May Belton widow. A William Henry E Colbourne was registered in Portsea in April-June 1900, possible son of Jack G also known as Frederick George Victor and Martha, a William H E Belton or Colbourne married Eliza M Fitzgerald in April-June 1946 in Portsmouth, and a Eliza May Belton, born 4 June 1888, Eliza M Fitzgerald widowed in the 1939 register, died 25 November 1975 at St James Hospital, Milton, Portsmouth leaving effects of £7457.
