Christening of William Baker in the IGI on 13 May 1821 in Frensham, Surrey, parents Richard and Frances Baker.

The same information is in West Surrey Family History Society Frensham Baptisms adding his father was a farmer, and this is also in Frensham Bishops Transcripts No 291.

In the 1841 census as William Baker aged 19, born in Surrey, and living with Richard and Frances (parents?), and Ann, Frances and Sarah (sisters?) at Upper West End, Frensham, Surrey.

His father died in 1849.

In the 1851 census as William Baker aged 49 in the index, 29 on the original, born in Frensham, a farmer of 60 acres employing two labourers, and living with two (farm) servants (Charles Marshall aged 25 and Francies Smith aged 17, both born in Frensham and unmarried) and a house servant (Ellen Shrub aged 17, born in Headley, Hampshire and unmarried) in Lower Churt, Frensham. My second great grandmother Charlotte Shrubb [Croucher] was next door at Squirrels so I assume this was Hale House which ties in with the 1871 census).

In the 1861 census as William Baker aged 40, born in Frensham, a farmer of 80 acres employing 30 (on the original although 3 is more likely) men and a boy, and living with wife (Sarah), two daughters (Mary and Fanny), brother-in-law (James Marden) and two (farm) servants (William Shrub aged 18, born in Headley, Hampshire and Henry Bicknall aged 16 and born in Witley, Surrey, both employed as carters) in Churt, Frensham.

In the 1871 census as William Baker aged 49, born in Frensham, a farmer of 80 acres employing 2 men and 1 boy, and living with his wife (Sarah), daughter (Mary), and two servants (George Loe aged 19, born in Headley, Hampshire, single and a farm servant, and Ellen Carby (Larby on the orginal) aged 15 and born in Liford (Tilford on the orginal)), Surrey, at Hale House, Churt, Frensham.

His wife died in 1879.

In the 1881 census as William Baker aged 59, born in Frensham, a grocer and farmer of 80 acres employing 3 labourers and 1 boy, and living with his two daughters (Mary and Fanny) and a (farm)servant (James Marden) at Hale House Farm, Churt, Frensham.

In the 1891 census as William Baker aged 70, born in Churt, Surrey, a widower, a farmer and grocer and employer, and living with his two daughters (Mary and Fanny) and brother-in-law (James Marden) at Squirrels Farm, Churt, Frensham.

The family moved to Thursley between 1891 and 1896.

Death of William Baker in FreeBMD in January-March 1896 aged 74 in Hambledon (2a 83) which included Thursley.

His two daughters, together with James Marden were running Wheeler's Farm, Thursley in the 1901 census.

Relationship

William Baker was my fourth cousin once removed. His wife was my first cousin three times removed.
