In the 1851 census as Matilda Baker aged 3, born in Frensham, Surrey and living with her parents (John and Mary), four brothers (Albert, Joseph, Seller and Stephen), and six sisters (Clara, Ellen, Emley, Kate A, Maria and Priscille), a visitor (Angelina Mary aged 19, born in Richmond, Surrey, single and no stated employment) and a servant (George Glaysher aged 22, born in Headley, Hampshire, single and an agricultural labourer) in Lower Churt, Frensham, Surrey.

In the 1861 census as Metilda (sic - in the index, Matilda on the original) Baker aged 13, born in Frensham, Surrey and living with her parents (John and Mary), five brothers (Albert, Joseph, Maurice, Selbe and Stephen), and three sisters (Clare, Kate and Prisille) in Churt, Frensham, Surrey.

Her mother died in 1869.

In the 1871 census as Matilda Baker aged 23, born in Churton, Surrey, an assistant housekeeper and living with her cousin (John Allden aged 49, born in Ash, Surrey and a farmer of 240 acres employing 9 men and 2 boys), his wife (Mary Ann aged 23 in the index, 43 on the original, and born in Aldershot, Hampshire), their two daughters (Alice aged 7 and born in Send, Surrey, and Elizabeth aged 18 and single), and two domestic servants (Lawra Charman aged 14 and born in Send and Lydia Gardon aged 18 and born in Wisley, Surrey) at Good Groves Farm House, Send , Surrey. Note that on the original the relationship is not clear and I can find no evidence of their being cousins - John's wife was Mary Anne Allden according to the marriage in the IGI on 28 April 1852 at Saint Michael, Aldershot, Hampshire.

In the 1881 census as Matilda M Smith aged 32, born in Churt, and living with her husband (Albert), son (George), daughter (Kate) and a visitor (Priscilla Baker - her unmarried sister whose occupation is housekeeper) at the Grocer's Shop, Seale, Surrey.

In the 1891 census as Matilda M Smith aged 41, born in Churton, Surrey, and living with her husband (Albert), three sons (George, Sydney B and William) and two daughters (Kate and Minnie) in Tongham Villiage, Seale, Surrey.

Death of Matilda Mary Smith in FreeBMD in April-June 1891 in Farnham (2a 80). Her husband married her sister Kate Amelia a year later.

In Bakers of Headley it states John’s eleventh child, Matilda Mary was baptized on 19 September 1847. She died in 1899. Nothing further is known of her at present.

Susan F Belsey has an entry for Matilda Mary Baker, daughter of John Baker and Mary Moorey, baptised on 19 September 1847, and died in 1899.

Relationship

Matilda Mary Baker was my half first cousin three times removed.
