Notes

Birth of Alfred Edward Adams in FreeBMD in January-March 1878 in Durham (10a 411).

His brother was born in Brixton in 1880 so I assume the family moved there.

In the 1881 census as Alfred Adams aged 3, born in the city of Durham, and living with his grandparents (Stephen and Hannah Nobbs), mother (Emma), and two brothers (George and Walter) in The Street, Loddon, Norfolk. I cannot find an entry for his father.

His younger sister was born in Castle Rising in 1883 so the family may have moved there.

In the 1891 census as Alfred Adams aged 14, born in the Durham, and living with his parents (Lawson and Emma), three brothers (George, Henry and Walter) and two sisters (Angelina and Florence) at Great Ryburgh, Norfolk.

His father died in 1895.

In the 1901 census as Alfred E Adams aged 23, born in Durham, single, employed as a railway engine stoker, and living with his widowed mother (Emma) in two rooms at Eastside, Kitchener Row, Melton Constable and Burgh Parva, Norfolk (two other people each lived in one room at the same address).

Loddon is 11 miles SE of Norwich on A146, Castle Rising is 5 miles NE of King's Lynn on A149, and Great Ryburgh is 4 miles SE of Fakenham. Melton Constable is 9 miles east of Fackenham on B1354. There was a railway station on the Eastern & Midlands Railway (Lynn & Fakenham).
