Birth of William Abberley in FreeBMD in April-June 1863 in Wandsworth (1D 456).
His mother is believed to have had a stillborn child on 7 April 1866 at Battersea Workhouse, and another son was registered and died in October-Decemmber 1869 in Wandsworth, surname Abberly. No father is known.
In the 1871 census as William Abberly aged 7, born in Battersea, Surrey, and living with his grandparents (Thomas and Sarah) at 16 Harvey Street, Battersea, Surrey. Three other families were living at the same address.
I cannot locate him in the 1881 to 1901 censuses, probably in the navy.
Entry in Ancestry UK, Royal Navy Registers of Seamen's Services, 1848-1939 for William Abberley born 19 August 1865 in Battersea, Surrey, unemployed height 5ft 2.75 in in 1883 and 5 ft 4 in 1893, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, scar on right foot, tattooed on both arms and chest 10 August 1881 to 31 March 1906, and again from 2 August 1914 on shore pensioned on Pembroke 1 to 15 February 1919 and was paid War Gratuity with note "Traced pension 18.5.17" and "Traced Pension 6.7.20", and right at end "True date of birth 19 April 1863".
In the 1911 census as William Abberley aged 46, single, a naval pensioner with no employment and boarding with Frederick Tew (aged 37, born in Yardley Hastings, Northamptonshire and a boot maker rivetter), his wife (Ellen aged 35, born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, married for 15 years with seven children, four sons (Charles aged 12 and born in Rushden, Northamptonshire, Frederick aged 15, born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire and a bootmaker, Lenard aged 14, born in Rushden, Northamptonshire, and a gardener at florist, and Reginald aged 10 and born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire), and three daughters (Lily aged 6 and born in Rushden, Northamptonshire, Minnie aged 8 and born in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, and Nelly aged 2 and born in Rushden, Northamptonshire) in six rooms at 63 Little Street, Rushden, Northamptonshire.
