Her sister was registered in July-September 1870 in Wandsworth.

Her mother was buried on 18 March 1871 at St Mary, Battersea.

In the 1871 census as Martha Aberley (sic - on the original) aged 3, born in Battersea, Surrey, and living with her widowed father (Thomas), two brothers (Richard and Thomas) and three sisters (Ellen, Francis F, and Francis H) at 3 Gillies? Cottages, Battersea, Surrey.

Her sister and father died soon after the census.

Entry in Ancestry London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1938 for Martha Abberley aged 23 father Richard Abberley, and Edward Johnson on 25 December 1890 at Saint Mary, Stamford Brook, Hammersmith and Fulham. "Page 31 1890 Marriage solemnized at St Mary's Church in the Parish of Hammersmith in the County of London. [No.] 61 December 25 1890 Edward Johnson [aged] 40 [a] widower [and] Painter [of] 55 Westville Road [father] James Johnson [a] Painter and Martha Abberley [aged] 23 [a] Spinster [of] 55 Westville Road [father] Richard Abberley (deceased) [a] Labourer. Married in the Church of St Mary according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns [...] in the Presence of James Johnson [and] Harriet Fuller?". Her father was Thomas - I cannot locate his death but it may have been soon after 1871 and she may have been brought up by her half-brother.

In the 1891 census as Martha Johnson aged 23, born in Wandsworth, Surrey, an upholstress, and living with her husband (Edward) and two (step)children (Annie and Ruth) in two rooms at 244 Kensal Road (a shoemaker's shop), Kensal Town, Chelsea. Two other families lived at the same address.
