"Page 31 1890 Marriage solemnized at St Mary's Church in the Parish of Hammersmith in the County of London. [No.] 61 December 25 1890 Edward Johnson [aged] 40 [a] widower [and] Painter [of] 55 Westville Road [father] James Johnson [a] Painter and Martha Abberley [aged] 23 [a] Spinster [of] 55 Westville Road [father] Richard Abberley (deceased) [a] Labourer. Married in the Church of St Mary according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns [...] in the Presence of James Johnson [and] Harriet Fuller?". Her father was Thomas - I cannot locate his death but it may have been soon after 1871 and she may have been brought up by her half-brother.
In the 1891 census as Martha Johnson aged 23, born in Wandsworth, Surrey, an upholstress, and living with her husband (Edward) and two (step)children (Annie and Ruth) in two rooms at 244 Kensal Road (a shoemaker's shop), Kensal Town, Chelsea. Two other families lived at the same address.
