His mother was buried on 5 July 1916 in Southwick when they lived in Southwick.

There are are several entries in Find my Past Newspapers re his wife, 11 August 1919 charged with unlawfully lottering on War Department land after being warned off at Lille Barracks, Farnborough, married with no fixed abode charged with stealing of boots and one shilling together of the £1 the Maria Baxwell (who may have been her grandmother) on 5 November 1919, lodging in the the open air and failing to give a good account of himself (sic - does this also apply to her husband?) on 5 December 1919, and a married woman seen at Guildford Station wearing the missing clothing, having takin a new dress and left old clothes on 27 April 1920, and a married woman of no fixed above has been convicted of various offence on 17 February 1920 in Arundel.

It was stated that Abberley hired the bicycle from a Farnborough dealer to look for work and never" in Daily News London on 8 November 1935 and "After a period of 14 years, with the result that George Abberley (40) appeared before the Aldershot Magistrates on Thursday charged with stealing, as bailee, a bicycle value £2 10s., the property of Frederick George King, at Farnborough, on 14 April, 1921." in Aldershot News 15 November 1921.
