His two sisters was born in 152 Morse Street, Toronto in 1891 and 1893.
His father died in 1893 and his mother married Edward J Barton in Toronto in 1899.

E. 123 Bouchoir New British Cemetry, Somme, France. "Was a Brawny Fighter. One of the biggest of Toronto's fighting men was Thos. Abbey, reported killed in action August 10. He stood 6 ft. 2 ins. high and weighed 230 pounds. Only a year ago he was wounded in the neck and shoulder. He was a Toronto boy, 28 years of age, a former employee of Gooderham and Worts, and had been overseas since March 1916. Six months ago his mother, Mrs Ellen Barton whose only son he was, had both legs broken by a runaway team in front of her home at 18 Sumach Street. Toronto Star, Sept 7, 1918".

It includes his Attestation questions which give his address as 152 Morse Street Toronto, his birth place as Toronto on 21 July 1889, his next of kin as his mother Mrs Ellen Barton of 78 Eastern A, Toronto, his occupation as a driver and single. He was 26 Years 11 months, height 6 ft. 3 ins, girth 39.5 in range 3.5 in, fair complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair. Joined 74 O. S. Battalion C.E.F 7 March 1916 transfered to 16th Canadian Reserve Battalion, proceeded overseas for service with 2nd CMR 8 June 1916, arrived Bramshott 9 June 1916, arrived in France on 11 June 1916, joined unit in field 17 June 1916, wounded in action on 26 August 1916, went to machine gun school 24 March 1917 to 7 April 1917, at Rest Camp from 15 September 1917 to 29 September 1917, on 10 days leave from 20 October 1917 to 30 October 1917 when reported absent without leave, instructions for his arrest issued 10 November 1917, arrested 7pm on 13 November 1917 by Canadian Military Police in London, tried 6 March 1918 sentenced to sixty days, admitted to Can Spec Hosp Willey? in England whilst on leave on 12 December 1917 with Gonorrhoea, discharged 28 January 1918 apparently cured, posted to Seaford on 31 January 1918, transfered overseas on 8 February 1918, killed in action in the field 10 July 1918. Pay of 20 per month was made to Mrs Ellen Barton 78 Eastern Avenue changed to 18 Sumach Street, Toronto, Ontario. His will states "In the event of my death I give my whole of my property and effects to my mother Mrs Ellen Barton Pte T Abbey No. 136646 2nd C.M.R B. Coy 8 infantry Brigrade France. Chief paymaster Westminster House 7 Millbank London"; a nil amount because he was not eligble was paid to Mr and Mrs Edward Barton (parents) address 152 Morse Street, Toronto Ontario on 14 July 1920. A medal and /or Plaque sent to his mother Mrs Ellen Barton, 18 Sumach Street, Ontario, Canada on 18 April 1922.
