I cannot locate him in the 1871 census, but he was not living with his father.

In the 1881 census as Leonard (sic - in the index, Richard on the original) Abbey aged 39, born in Knaresbro, Yorkshire, single, a sawyer of wood and living with his widowed father (Thomas), two sisters (Mary A and Margaret) and neice (Sarah E) in Windsor Lane, Scriven with Tentergate, Yorkshire, a note adding Transfered to Knaresborough by D.P. act of 1882.

Death of Richard Abbey in FreeBMD in July-September 1887 aged 46 in Knaresbro' (9A 69).
