In the 1911 census as Edith Abbey aged 3 (sic in the index, 6 on the orginal), born in Goldsborough, Yorkshire, and living with her mother (Emma Gertrude Lister), stepfather (Alfred Lister), brother (Arthur Francis), (half)brother (Alfred Lister), three sons of his stepfather (Bertie, Henry Joshia and Norris), and his stepfather's daughter (Ileen) in four rooms at Horse Fair, Wetherby, Yorkshire.

Her stepfather died in Wetherby shortly after the census and her mother married Daniel Joseph Kelly in Bradford in 1917.

In the 1921 census as Edith Abbey born in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, Yorkshire in 1904 and living with Emma S Kelly (mother?), Arthur F Abbey (brother?), Daniel Kelly (stepfather?), Alfred and Herbert Lister (half-brothers?), Kathleen Kelly (half-sister?) and Irene List (half-sister?) in Bradford, Yorkshire (West Riding).

Her daughter son was born in Bradford in 1943.
