"Baptisms solemnized in the Parish of Battersea St George in the County of Surrey in the Year 1855 No 139 1855 Oct 28th born July 4 Joseph, parents John, a charcoal dealer, and Harriet Scammell at Battersea Fields".
In the 1861 census as Joseph Scammell aged 5, born in Battersea, and living his grandmother (Sarah Bridger), uncle (Edwd), and grand uncle (John Hill aged 47, born in Crawley, Hampshire, widowed and a gardener) at 9 York Street, Battersea, Surrey. His mother was living his brother (Henry), sister (Mary A), and three lodgers (John Seymour aged 27, born in Norwood, Surrey and a labourer, George Pickett aged 25, born in Tackley, Oxfordshire and a labourer, and Sarah Garrett aged 29, born in Poole, Dorset and a dress maker, all single) at 9 York Street, Battersea, Surrey. His mother died just after the 1881 census and I cannot find any later information on him or his brother.
