Notes

This entry is largely guesswork. It relies on Patrick Haswell Croucher being the son of John and Patience Croucher, and this implies that Patricks grandmother was Mary Haswell. John died 1862 aged 70 putting his birth in about 1792. The only christenings in Dorking around that time were in 1793 son of John and Ann and 1794 son of Thomas and Sarah.

There is an entry in the Pedigree Resource File for John Croucher born in 1805 in Dorking, parents John Croucher and Mary Haswell and his death and burial on 30 May 1837 at Dorking St Martins. I do not believe that this is the correct christening or death entry.

Marriage of John Croucher and Patience Fravel in the IGI on 1 March 1813 in Dorking, Surrey. The same information is in the West Surrey Family History Society Surrey Marriage Index adding both were of this parish and it was by banns.

All the children were christened in Dorking. However there is no entry for Henry, but he is given as a brother of William in the 1851 census.

His wife died in 1833.

In the 1841 census as John Coucker (sic - in the index, Croucher on the original) aged 46, a labourer and living with Mary (mother?) and Hadwell Pakick and Richard Pakick (sons?) and Ann (daughter?) in Kings Head Square, Dorking, Surrey.

In the 1851 census as John Croucher aged 50, born in Dorking, a widower, a gardener, and lodging with James Cook (aged 49, born in Dorking, and an agricultural labourer), his wife (Elizabeth aged 46, and born in Leigh, Surrey), two sons (Alfred Coors aged 15 and George Coors aged 13, both born in Dorking), four daughters (Eliza aged 9, Emily aged 4 and Marcia aged 18 all with surname Coors, and Mary Ann Scriven aged 29 and married, and a servant, all born in Dorking), son-in-law (Samuel Sansing aged 24, born in Stedham, Sussex, married and an agricultural labourer) in Ram Alley off Chart Lane, Dorking, Surrey.

In the 1861 census as John Croucher aged 69, born in Dorking, a widower, a gardener, and an inmate at the Dorking District Union Poor House, Horsham Road, Dorking. His son John was also there.
