Entry in the IGI for the birth of Alfred Edward Croucher on 15 September 1875, parents John James Croucher and Charlotte Rosina, and his christening on 12 May 1876 at St. Barnabas, Lambeth, Surrey. There is also a submitted entry for Alfred Croucher born in 1875 in Southwark, Surrey, parents John James Croucher and Charlotte Baptist.
However there is no entry in the Register of Births between June and December 1875 which matches this information, but there is an entry in FreeBMD for the birth of Alfred Edward Croucher in September-December 1874 in St Saviour Southwark (1d 68) so I assume the birth was on 15 September 1874. However St Saviour Southwark did not include Lambeth.
Entry in the 1881 census for Alfred Croucher aged 6, born in Southwark, and living with his parents (John and Charlotte), three brothers (Albert, John and Thomas) and sister (Charlotte) at Prescott Place 2 Bakers Cottages, Clapham, Surrey.
The following information came from Tom Croucher in Australia:
Alfred Edward Croucher was born in c 1875 in London, England, parents John James Croucher and Charlotte Rosena Baptist. He emigrated to Australia with his mother some time after 1884 to join his father. He married
Lucy Hollis on 31 March 1896 in Leichhardt, Sydney. They had no children. For the first 20 years of their marriage they lived in Leichhardt, mostly in Allen Street, and Alfred's occupation was listed either as Van Proprietor or Fuel Merchant. In the 1920's they moved to Dee Why where they ran an Estate Agency and a Drapery shop. He died on 26 July 1937.
Phillipa Andrew has an entry for Alfred Edward Croucher born on 15 September 1874 at 5 Princess St, Southwark, his marriage to Lucy Hollis on 31 March 1896, his occupations as van man, storeman, carrier, draper and estate agent, his addresses as 45 Marion St, Leichhardt (1897-1899), Allen St, Leichhardt, (1901-1906), 95 Norton St, Leichhardt (1907-1917), 1 Macauley St, Leichhardt (a corner house also given in some sources as 163 Norton St) (1918-1919), briefly at 3 Alfred Pde, Ashfield, 87 Clarendon Rd, Stanmore (1921), William St, Brookvale (1925-1926) Sea View, Pacific Pde, Dee Wy (1927). Daisy St, Dee Why (1928-1929), 47 Holden St, Ashfield (1931), Daisy St, Dee Why (1932) He died on 26 July 1937 at 51 Holden St, Ashfield, NSW, Australia, from chronic nephritis, high blood pressure and a coronary thrombosis and was buried on the 18 July 1937 in the Independent Cemetery, Rookwood after a service in the Gospel Hall, Leichhardt (there is an obvious error in the death and burial dates - I guess the burial was in August). There were no children from this marriage.
Leichhardt is 5 miles WSW of Sydney and Dee Why is 20 miles north of Sydney.
