Pitfold is a long way from Frensham Church being just north of Shottermill so he may have been christened at home.)

In the 1851 census as John Wheeler aged 60, born in Fransham (sic), Surrey, an agricultural labourer, and living with his wife (Mary), son (Thomas) and four daughters (Anna, Maria, Martha and Sarah) in Bramshott, Hampshire.

In the 1861 census as John Wheeler aged 70, born in Upper Pitfold, Surrey, a labourer on roads, and living with his wife (Mary), daughter (Ann), grandson (Thomas), and granddaughter (Emily) near Quince Farm, Bramshott, Hampshire.

In the 1871 census as John Wheeler aged 79, born in Frencham (sic), Surrey, and living with his wife (Mary), married daughter (Charlotte Newman) and granddaughter (Kate Newman) at Marches, Hewshott, Bramshott, Hampshire. I suspect he was working for William Chalcraft, my fifth cousin three times removed, who had the farm at Hewshott.

Death of John Wheeler in FreeBMD in January-March 1874 aged 82 in Petersfield (2c 89).
