There are four submitted entries in the IGI for William Shires born about 1682 in Oulton, Yorkshire, and his death/burial on 6 October 1749 in Oulton, one adding his wife Jane and 8 children all christened in Oulton. The 8 children are very similar to extracted entries from the IGI for christenings in Rothwell (Oulton cum Woodlesford was a chapelry in the parish of Rothwell, but its records only go back to 1830).
The following table compares the two lists - some of the differences are due to taking the start of the year as 1 January or 25 March, others are obvious misreadings such as Jan and Jun, and others are difficult to account for such as the christenings of Anne and William 2 months apart. Were there two families? There is an entry in the Ancestral File for a William Shires born about 1685 in Rothwell, married to Anne Hick with a son William christened on 27 January 1711 in Rothwell. The marriage to Anne Hick was on 30 November 1707 in Aberford and I believe that William Shires was born in Aberford in 1682 as there were four children (Ann, Sarah, Thomas and William) born in Aberford between 1712 and 1723.

There is an entry for William Shires born 1682, married to Jane with 11 children (including a John born 4 years after Jane's death), and his death in 1749. There are over 20 entries for William Shires born in 1685 in Rothwell, some of which give his parents as Johannis Shires and Anna Reader from Darmstadt, Germany, his marriage to Ann Hicks in 1710, a son William born 1711, some a second marriage to Martha Cave Shires and six children born 1734 to 1744, and his death in Rothwell in 1760. There are also entries for William Shires born 1689 in Swillington parents Johannis Shires and Anna Reader (both born in Swillington) or Francis Shires from Bolton Abbey and Grace Smith from Skipton.
There are also two entries in RootsWeb WorldConnect for William Shires born in 1689 in Swillington, Yorkshire, parents Johannis Shires and Anna Reader and four for William Shires born in 1685 in Rothwell, Yorkshire, married to Ann Hicks and a son William born in 1711.
