In the 1901 census as George Smith aged 1, born in West Hartlepool, Durham, and living with his parents (Tom A and Emily M), and a visitor (Adlard Walker aged 16, born in Whitby, Yorkshire, single and no stated employment) in four rooms at 23 Topcliffe Street, West Hartlepool, Durham.
In the 1911 census as George Smith aged 11, born in West Hartlepool, Durham, and living with his parents (Tom Atkinson and Emily Maude), brother (Ernest Elsie) and sister (May) in four rooms at 42 Furness Street, West Hartlepool, Durham.
His brother and sister were born in Hartlepool in 1911 and 1915.

Muriel and Hilda Whyte were sisters from the 1911 census, and both married a George Smith. Although one entry in Ancestry Public Member Trees states there is no evidence for it being the same George Smith there is also no evidence for it being a different one. There are several entries for the Wytes with inconsistent information. There is an entry for George Smith born on 6 February 1900 in Hartlepool, Durham, parents Thomas Atkinson Smith and Emily Maude Walker, his marriage to Hilda Whyte in Hartlepool in April-June 1928, a son and daughter, and his death on 6 January 1968 in Hartlepool. There is an entry in the Register of Deaths for Muriel Smith born on 12 December 1899 who died in January-March 1982 in North Cleveland who was probably Murial Whyte. One entry has her husband born in 1901 and died in April 1963 in Hartlepool. If correct this would be George Henry Smith, but there is no H in the marriage entry.
