Entry in Ancestry Hampshire, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921 for the marriage of Moses Othen aged 24 and a gamekeeper, father Eli Othen, and Ellen Shrub on 10 May 1856 in Binsted. "Page 74 1856. Marriage solemnized in the Parish Church in the Parish of Binsted in the County of Southampton [No.] 147 May 10th Moses Othen [aged] 24 [a] Bachelor [and] Game Keeper [of] Binsted [father] Eli Othen [a] Labourer, [and] Ellen Shrub [aged] 21 [a] Spinster [of] Binstead [father] John Shrub [a] Brick Layer. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after Banns [...both made their marks] in the Presence of us, Alfred Shrub [and] Ann Shrub.

His son was registered in April-June 1857 in Alton and baptised on 27 May 1857 at Holy Cross, Binsted, when he was a game keeper of Binsted, mother Eleanor.

In the 1901 census as Moses Chen (sic - illegible on original but probably Othen) aged 68, born in Binsted, Hampshire, an agricultural labourer, and living with his wife (Ellen Othen) and daughter (Edith Othen) in 4 rooms on the road to church, Binsted, Hampshire.

His wife was buried on 18 December 1905 at St James Rowledge certified under the Burial Act 1880 by Moses Othen.

Relationship

Ellen Shrubb was my first cousin three times removed.
