Notes

There is a submitted entry in the IGI for the marriage of Frances Read and Elijah Cock on 8 November 1825 in South Lopham, Norfolk.

All the children were christened in Lopham.

In the 1841 census as Frances Cox aged 46, born in Norfolk, and living with Thos Cox (aged 3 months and born in Norfolk who I believe to be later know as Thomas Allen Read), Mary Hambling (aged 71), Thomas Hambling (aged 21) and Willm Hambling (aged 11) in Hall Lane, South Lopham, Norfolk. Her husband was living with the rest of the family at their home in Park Lane, South Lopham.

In the 1851 census as Francis (sic - on the original) Cox aged 54, born in Bressingham, and living with her husband (Elizah (sic)), three daughters (Eliza, Harriet and Mary Ann), a granddaughter (Anna Maria Cock (daughter of Harriet)) and a nephew (Thomas Allen Read aged 10 and born in Berkely Mary (sic - I think it is Berkeley Square), Middlesex) at Low Common, South Lopham.

Death of Frances Cox in FreeBMD in October-December 1859 in Guiltcross (4b 177) which included Lopham.

Lopham is 2.5 miles west of Bressingham on A1066.

Thomas Allen Read is believed by some to be the (adopted?) child of William and Charlotte Read nee Cox, but is also believed by others to have been brought up by the family nurse who lived to be 104. Charlotte could be a sister of Elijah Cox. However the only William and Charlotte Read in Norfolk were living in Tattersett in 1841 and she was born in Rudham according to the 1851 census - this could however provide the connection between Susannah Cox and William Belton which has always been a mystery. The only likely nurse is Mary Cole who died in Guiltcross in 1872 aged 103. However she can be traced back through the census to 1841 living in Buckenham, and there appears to be no connection with Thomas Read except that he married there. The Ashfield Family Tree has an entry for Thomas Allen Read born 1840 in Berkeley Mews, Middlesex and brought up by the Cox family in South Lopham, and married Eliza Ashfield of Winfarthing at the Particular Baptist Chapel, Old Buckenham.

Relationship

Frances Read was Felicity's third great grandmother.
