In the 1841 census as William Payne aged 18, born in Sussex, employed as a fisherman, and living with Friend and Elizabeth (parents?) and Joeseph (brother?) at No 2 Chuters Gardens, Palace, Brighthelmstone, Sussex.
In the 1851 census as William Paine aged 27, born in Brighton, employed as a fisherman, and living with his parents (Friend and Elizabeth) at 17 Poplar Place, Palace, Brighton, Sussex.
In the 1861 census as William Paine aged 36, born in Brighton, employed as a fisherman, and living with his parents (Friend and Elizabeth) at 21a Meeting House Lane, Palace, Brighton.
I cannot find an entry in the 1871 census.
There is an entry in FreeBMD for the death of William Paine in July-September 1877 aged 54 in Brighton (2b 139).
Chris and Tony Slater have an entry in Ancestry Public Member Trees for William Paine born about 1823 in Brighton, parents Friend Paine and E Stevens/Slaughter, his marriage to Mary A and a daughter Mary A. The marriage and daughter have been taken from the wrong 1871 census entry as this family is in the 1861 census when William is recorded as living with his parents. T Payne has an entry giving his birth in 1823 in Brighton parents Friend and Elizabeth Paine or Payne.
William Paine was my seventh cousin four times removed.
