There is an entry in the Ancestral File for the birth of Thomas Payne or Paine in 1688, parents, Thomas Paine and Elizabeth Frend, his christening in Brighton on 15 Jauary 1688, his marriage to Johannah Newton (undated), and their five children (surname Payne), two of which were after her death!
However there is another submitted entry in the IGI for the marriage of Thomas Paine and Hannah Reyner on 25 June 1721 in Brighton, and there are two submitted enties for the same Johannah Newton (same christening date and parents) marrying a Derick Rainard on 13 January 1715 in Brighton.
There is no entry for Thomas Paine and Joannah Newton in the Sussex Family History Group Sussex Marriage Index, but there is an entry for Thomas Paine and Hannah Reyner, a widow, both of this parish on 25 June 1721 in Brighton. This also has an enter for Derek Rainer and Joanna Newton on 13 January 1714/16.
He was called Thomas Pain or Paine in the extracted entries for the christenings of his children who were all christened in Brighton, and whose mother is Hannah in all cases.
Thomas Paine was my third cousin eight times removed.
