In the 1891 census as Elizabeth Paine aged 12, born in Shoreham, Sussex, employed as a domestic servant and living with George Martin (aged 28, born in Brighton and employed as a gas fitter), his wife (Mary A aged 27 and born in Brighton) and his stepdaughter (Catherine M Scott aged 2 and born in Brighton) at 4 Hendon Road, Brighton St Peter.
