Road, father William Messenger (deceased), an estate agent. Married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church by Licence" .

In the 1911 census as Bertha Chalcraft aged 45, born in Wonersh, Surrey, married for nine years, no children, and living with her husband (Stephen Arthur Chalcraft) in 5 rooms at 40 York Road, Forest Gate, E, West Ham, Essex.

Entry in Ancestry London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965 for Bertha Chalcraft living at 141 Barcombe Avenue SW2 Wandsworth in 1918. Stephen Arthur Chalcraft (husband?) was living at the same address.

Her husband died at 105 The Causeway Petersfield on 12 January 1942 and left £258 14s. 11d to his widow Bertha Chalcraft."

"Chalcraft Bertha of 105 The Causeway Petersfield Hampshire widow died 19 March 1943 at Newlands Nursing Home Rake Hampshire Probate Llandudno 5 August to Mary Goldsmith widow. Effects £1715 6s. 5d."

There are four entries in Ancestry Public Member Trees for Bertha Louisa Messenger born in Wonersh or Hamledon, Surrey in 1866, parents William and Ellen Messenger, and in three her marriage to George Alfred Horwood. These are obviously confusing her with Bertha Louisa Messenger born in Kensington in 1861.

Bertha Messenger was the wife of Stephen Arthur Chalcraft, my sixth cousin once removed.
