In the 1901 census as Alice Madgwick aged 16, born in Fittleworth, Sussex, a laundry ?, and living with her parents (Charles and Emmeline) in four rooms at 14 Church Wood, Fittleworth, West Sussex.

Marriage of Alice Frances Madgwick and Nelson Osborn (sic) in the IGI on 24 August 1901 in Fittleworth, Sussex. Another entry adds her age as 16, her father Charles Madgwick, his surname as Osbourne, his age as 22, and father as Henry Osborne.

In the 1911 census as Alice Osborne aged 26, born in Fittleworth, Sussex, married for nine years with four children, one of whom had died, and living with her husband (Nelson), two sons (Fredrick and Harold) and a boarder (Edwin Silvester aged 26, born in Compton, Sussex, single and a horseman on farm) in three rooms at Churchwood, Fittleworth, Sussex.

Effects £616 19s 5d."

Another adds the date of the marrriage as June 1901, and three sons, and another gives all five. Two other entries give her marriage to William Thomas Clarke (who married Kate Hawkins on 24 September 1901 in Fittleworth and are on the same page in the Register of Marriages), and one entry gives her mother's maiden name as Steen.

Note Sussex was divided into East and West in 1889.

Relationship

Alice Frances Madgwick was the first cousin twice removed of David Madgwick, husband of Catherine Young, grandaunt of Ellen Young, wife of Thomas Paine, my eighth cousin three times removed. Her husband was the brother of Edith Osborn who married her brother Abram later in 1901.
