In the 1871 census as Richard Heavers aged 19, born in Middle, Poplar, single, a telegraph man, and living with his parents (Thomas and Fanny), two brothers (James and Richard), and a lodger (John Wright aged 19, born in Lea Bridge, Essex, single and a labourer in the docks) at 3 Dock Terrace, West Ham, Essex.
