There is an entry in the IGI for the christening of James Hall on 27 February 1805 in Headley, Hampshire, parents Stephen Hall and Anne.

The same information is in Headley Baptisms except his mother's name is spelt Ann.

In the 1841 census as James Hall aged 30 (rounded down to a multiple of 5) born in Headley, employed as a wheelwright and living at Frensham Pond. It is not clear where the household begins and ends, but it appears to include George Marder (sic in the index), his wife Elizabeth who was James' half sister, and family which means it was at the hotel, Elizabeth Baker (daughter of Stephen and Mary?), William Cempter, Stephen Harding, William Larby (son of Henry and Maria?), William and Mary Lawrence, John Manel and Richard Saunders.

In the 1851 census as James Hall aged 41, born in Headley, unmarried, employed as a wheelwright and lodging with Richard Jenkins (aged 55, born in Liss, widowed and employed as an agricultural labourer), his daughter (James - in the index, original illegible, aged 13 and born in Liss) and another Lodger (John Fry, aged 44, unmarried, born in Liss and employed as an agricultural labourer) next door to the Post Office, Liss, Hampshire.

Entry in the 1861 census for James Hall aged 60, born in Frensham, unmarried, employed as a wheelwright, and lodging with James Sturt and his sister Ann Sturt aged 34 and 24, both born in Bramshott, and both employed as grocers at Liphook.
