Birth, marriage and death from my father's records. I assume she was born at Coppice Cottage, Churt although my father believed she was born on 29 May in Rooks Cottage, Headley Road (this cannot be correct as the birth was registered in Farnham - I assume he guessed this from the fact that her mother lived at Rooks Cottage after he was born)..
Birth of Ellen Fullick in FreeBMD in April-June 1872 in the Farnham District which included Frensham/Churt (2a 114). From a copy of the entry of birth made on 14 December 2004: birth of Ellen Fullick on 25 May 1872 in Churt, Frensham, Surrey, father Henry Fullick employed as a farm labourer, mother Martha Fullick formerly Shrubb, informed by Henry Fullick her father (who made his mark so could not write) on 29 June 1872.
In the 1881 census as Ellen Fullock, aged 9, born in Frensham, employed as a farm worker and living with with her parents, 4 brothers (Samuel, James, Frederick and Arthur) and 2 sisters (Kate and Lilly who was her neice), in Churt. The entry is between Simmons Stone and Wellmer's Cottage so I assume this was Coppice Cottage where my father lived later on.
1891 census 1891 census as Ellen Fullick aged 18, born in Frensham, Surrey, single, unemployed, and living with her parents, four brothers (Samuel, James, Frederick and Arthur), and two sisters (Kate and Lilly who was her neice) at Simmond Stone, Headley. The previous entry was Simmond Stone, the next entry Frensham Pond Hotel followed by Wishanger so I assume this was Field House which is only a short walk from Coppice Cottage, but the other side of Barford Stream which forms the county and parish boundaries.
Marriage of Ellen Fullick and James Croucher in FreeBMD in April-June 1897 in the Alton District (2c 353). From copy of Entry of Marriage made on 13 December 2004: Ellen Fullick, aged 25, a spinster, and living at Field House, Headley was married to James Croucher on 26 June 1897 at Headley Parish Church by W H Laverty as witnessed by Albert Hutchings and Lillie Hursie Fullick. Her father is given as Henry Fullick, a labourer.
Listed in the 1901 census as Ellen Croucher aged 28, born in Churt, married and living at The Barracks, Churt with her husband, two daughters (Emily and Ellen) and son (William)
Sylvia remembers her as being very servere. She continued living at Fairfield after her husband died, but fell down stairs and was concussed. She then lived with her daughter Ruth Deadman, but suffered from Altzeimers. She died in hospital. and was buried in St Johns, Churt with her husband and daughter "In loving memory of James Croucher died 11th October 1939 aged 78 and his wife Ellen died 25 August aged 71, also Emily Croucher died 23rd October 1926 aged 29".
From Phillip Brooks: Churt: A Medieval Village - Coppice Cottage is probably on the site of the first assart in the early 13th century and enclosed by the de Hales. The area was known as Lower Hale Head. The cottage suggests a date of 1660. The stones from the old floors are now used as garden paths. The track on the south side (now a path) was formally a public road to Field House and Wishanger.
I am her grandson and third cousin twice removed.
