Christening of Joseph Foster in the IGI on 22 March 1818 in Wortley by Leeds, Yorkshire, parents Joseph Foster and Mary.

In the 1841 census as Joseph Foster aged 22, employed as a clothier and living with Joseph and Mary (parents?), Mary Ann and Naomi (sisters?), and Martha and Ruth Pickard, and George Mathewsman (I assume a relative of his mother) in Low Wortley, Tankersley Yorkshire.

Marriage of Joseph Foster and Mary Fawcett in FreeBMD in January-March 1842 in Leeds (323 340).

In the 1851 census as Josh Foster aged 34, born in Wortley, employed as a clothier, and living with his wife (Mary), son (Josh) and two daughters (Elizh and Sarah) at Low Wortley. Aso in Wortley 1851 census as Joseph Foster aged 34.

His wife Mary died on August 24th 1852 aged 33 years.

The marriage of Joseph Foster and Martha Austin is in FreeBMD in July-September 1854 in Leeds (9b 403).

In the 1861 census as Joseph Foster aged 43, born in Wortley, employed as a woollen overlooker, and living with his wife (Martha), son (Joseph), three daughters (Annie, Elizabeth and Sarah) and son-in-law (John Austin who was actual his step-son and also his half first cousin once removed) in Wapping, Wortley.

In the 1871 census as Joseph Foster aged 53, born in Wortley, employed as a power loom tuner, and living with his wife (Martha), son (William), daughter (Ann) and granddaughter (Mary - daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann) in Low Wortley.

In the 1881 census as Joseph Foster aged 63, born in Wortley, Yorkshire, employed as an overlooker, and living with his wife (Martha), daughter (Ann Robinson) and son-in-law (Edwin Robinson), and granddaughter (Mary - daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann) at the Bull Ring, Wortley in Bramley.

Death of Joseph Foster in FreeBMD in April-June 1872 in Scarboro' (9d 238).

Copy made on 27th May 1975 of the Certificate of Death for entry 22, 1890 Scarborough, Yorkshire states Joseph Foster died on 11th April 1890 at Lord Nelson Hotel, Foreshore Road, Scarborough, aged 72 years. He was employed as a clothweaver, and died of aporplexy. The informant was George Taylor, the deputy coroner of Scarborough, the inquest being held on 11 April 1890 - (the same day as he died) and it was registered on 14th April.

* The tombstone in Wortley Cemetery, Oldfield Lane reads "Affectionate remembrance of Joseph Foster died April 11th 1892 (sic - should be 1890) aged 72 years ' Be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh', Also Mary, wife of the above, who died August 24th 1852 aged 33 years and interred at Bethel Chapel, Wortley, Also Martha, wife of the above, who died July 4th in the 79th year of her age. Errected to the memory of Joseph Foster as a tribute by his fellow workers at Farnley Low Mills where he was employed for 50 years. Also their daughter Ann Robinson who died December 19th 1935 aged 77 years. And of their son-in-law Edwin Robinson, who died August 26th 1927 aged 67 years. " The grave also contains an infant, Emily Robinson, aged 3 died November 18th 1901. *
