Notes

There is a submitted entry in the IGI for the marriage of Elijah Cock and Frances Read on 8 November 1825 at South Lopham, Norfolk.

In the entries in the 1813 to 1880 Baptism Project South Lopham St Andrew for the christening of the children Elijah Cock's occupation is given as a labourer (his name is spelt Elisha for Sophia's christening).

In the 1841 census as Elizar Cox (sic - in the index, Elijar on the original) aged 30 (rounded down to a multiple of 5), born in Norfolk, employed as an agricultural labourer, and living with Edwd (son?) and Eliza, Harriet, Mary and Sophia (daughters?) at Park Lane, South Lopham, Norfolk. His marriage status is not given, but I believe his wife and Thomas Cox (who I believe was his wife's nephew, later called Thomas Allen Read) were with Mary Hambling in Hall Lane, South Lopham.

In the 1851 census as Elizah (sic) Cox, aged 41 (I think it should be 47), born in South Lopham, employed as an agricultural labourer, and living with his wife (Francis), three daughters (Eliza, Harriet, and Mary Ann), a granddaughter (Anna Maria Cock (daughter of Harriet)) and a nephew (Thomas Allen Read aged 10 and born in Berkely Mary (sic - I think it is Berkeley Square), Middlesex) at Low Common, South Lopham.

His wife died in 1859.

In the 1861 census as Elizah (sic) Cock aged 57, born in South Lopham, a widower, employed as an agricultural labourer, and living with his daughter (Eliza), and granddaughter (Anna M Cock) at Low Common, South Lopham. William Hambling and Thomas A Read were living next door.

In the 1871 census as Elijah Cock aged 68, born in South Lopham, widowed, employed as an agricultural labourer and living with his daughter Eliza at Workhouse Common, South Lopham.

In the 1881 census as Elijah Cock aged 76, born in South Lopham, a widower, and living with his daughter (Eliza) on Low Common, South Lopham.

In the 1891 census as Elizah (sic) Cox aged 86, born in South Lopham, a widower, a retired agricultural abourer and living with his daughter (Eliza) on Low Common, South Lopham (in 3 rooms).

Death of Elijah Cox in FreeBMD in January-March 1892 aged 87 in Guiltcross (4b 250).
