Copy made on 18 March 2004 of Entry of Birth Number 54 in 1860 in the Lutterworth District - Clara Elizabeth Cowles born 20 August 1860 at Stretton under Fosse to James Cowles, a game keeper and Emily Cowles formerly Adams. The informant was her mother and the birth was registered on 3 September 1860. Birth of Clara Elizabeth Cowles in FreeBMD in July - September 1860 in Lutterworth District (7a 10).
Christening of Clara Elizabeth Cowles in the IGI on 23 September 1860 at Monks Kirby, Warwick, parents James Cowles and Emily.
In the 1861 census as Clara Cowles aged 6 months, born in Stretton under Foss, Warwickshire, and living with her parents, and sister (Annie) at Keepers Lodge, Monks Kirby, Stretton under Fosse, Warwickshire.
In the 1871 census as Clara Cowles, aged 10, born in Shelton (sic - in the index, should be Stretton), Warwickshire, and living with her parents, brother Edward) and sister (Jane) and a border (Anna Grant aged 1 and born in Greenwich) at No 2 Ennetts Cottages, Old Woolwich Road, Greenwich, Kent.
In the 1881 census as Clara Cowles aged 20, born in Warwick, single, employed as a general domestic servant by Herman (German) and Emlie (Austrian) Large, importers of foreign fancy textiles, and living with them, their son, a servant and a companion at 26 Quadrant Road, London, Middlesex (Not in current A-Z).
Marriage in FreeBMD in July-September 1884 at Greenwich (1d 1445) to either William Baker or an unknown (other wife is Emma Bell). However no evidence of a Clara and William Baker in the 1891 census, but I can find only one Clara born in the right area at the right time, but she had the maiden name Gamble.
I am her Grandnephew.
