There is a submitted entry in the IGI for the birth of Alice Cowles in Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1866, parents Stephen and Esther Cowles.

In the 1871 census as Alice Cowles aged 5, born in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and living with her widowed mother (Esther), four brothers (Charles, Edward, Henry and John) and four sisters (Ellen, Emma, Harriet and Lucy) at 22 Factory Lane, Lowestoft, Suffolk.
