Mary was born in Fersfield in 1807, Charlotte, John and James in Kenninghall 1809-1813, William and Sophia in East Harling in 1816-1817, and Esther and Susan in Fersfield in 1821-1826. He is described as a labourer in the christening entry for James in 1813. The spelling Catling is used in all entries.
In the 1841 census as James Catlyn, aged 55 (rounded down to a multiple of 5), born in Norfolk, employed as an agricultural labourer, and living with Pheby (wife?), Easter and Susan (daughters?), and Jonathen Ashman (aged 40 and born in Norfolk) at Fersfield street, Fersfield, Norfolk.
In the 1851 census as James Catlyn aged 69, born in Banham, Norfolk, employed as an agricultural labourer but also a pauper, and living with his wife (Phebe) in Church Street, Fersfield. His birth was calculated from this entry.
