Birth of Louis Edward Cowles in FreeBMD in July-September 1884 in Mutford (4a 918) which included Lowestoft.
His father died on 1 January 1888 in Lowestoft and his mother married Henry William Cooke in 1890.
In the 1891 census as Lewis (sic - on the original) E Cowles aged 6 born in Lowestoft, and living with his stepfather (Henry W Cooke), mother (Mary Ann), and sister (Lucy B) at 59 Edinburgh Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk.
In the 1901 census as Louis Gowles (sic - in the index, correct on the original) aged 16, born in Lowestoft, a sawyers mate, and visiting Clara Motts (aged 37, born in Kessingland, Suffolk, married but not with her husband, and no stated employment), her daughter (Dora aged 18, born in Kessingland, single and a dressmaker working on her own account)), and two other visitors (Herbert Heart aged 18, born in Kessingland, single and a fisherman and Florence Rose aged 18, born in Bentley, Essex, single and a domestic servant) at 47 Beaconsfield Road, Kirkley, Suffolk.
Entry in Ancestry UK, Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects, 1901-1929 for L E Cowles Private 16400 KAMC died on 16 December 1902 in Wynberg £4 11s 8d paid to Mrs Mary A and £2 5s 10d to Sis Lucy. It appears to be the Wynberg in Cape Town rather than Wynberg in Johannesberg since it was paid from the Cape 2 account.
Entry in Find a Grave for Louis Edward Cowles born in Suffolk, died on 16 December 1902 in South Africa, father Edward Cowles Inscription: "In loving remembrance of Edward Cowles, the beloved husband of Mary Ann Cowles, who fell asleep January 1st 1888 aged 28 years, also of Louis Edward, the beloved son of the above, who died of F---- Fever in South Africa Dec 16 1902 aged 18 years". This stone can be found in Lowestoft Cemetery, Lowestoft, Suffolk.
Kilkley is just south of Lowestoft.
Louis Edward Cowles was my third cousin.
